Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the Artline Epoxy Resin FAQ!

This section provides answers to the most common questions about our epoxy resin products, their usage, and best practices. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced resin artist, this guide will help you achieve the best results with Artline Epoxy Resin.

Epoxy resin is a versatile material used for creating stunning art, jewelry, tabletops, and coatings. However, proper techniques and knowledge are essential for successful projects. Below, we cover key topics such as mixing ratios, curing times, troubleshooting common issues, and resin safety.

Understanding Artline Epoxy Resin

Many first-time users ask: What is epoxy resin, and how does it work? It is a two-part system consisting of resin and hardener. When mixed correctly, it undergoes a chemical reaction that results in a durable, glossy, and transparent finish.

We also explain the importance of correct mixing ratios. Using too much or too little hardener can lead to improper curing, sticky surfaces, or brittle finishes. By following the right proportions, you’ll achieve a smooth, strong, and bubble-free result.

Best Practices for Using Epoxy Resin

Working with Artline Epoxy Resin requires attention to detail. To ensure the best outcome, consider factors such as:

  • Ideal working temperatures and humidity levels.
  • The proper way to mix and pour resin to minimize bubbles.
  • How to add pigments, glitters, and embellishments for unique designs.
  • Curing time and techniques to speed up the process safely.

Troubleshooting Common Resin Issues

Encountering problems with your resin project? This guide provides solutions for sticky, soft, or improperly cured resin. We also offer guidance on avoiding bubbles, fixing surface imperfections, and storing resin correctly to prolong its shelf life.

QUESTIONS

All epoxy products are available for purchase here, on our website. Additionally, we maintain an offline sales point at our warehouse in Ljubljana, Slovenia. If you are local, please select the "local pick up" option when placing your order.

For rectangular or square projects, use this formula to calculate resin quantity:

Length(cm) × Width(cm) × Thickness(cm) × 1.1 = grams of resin

(The resin density is 1.1 g/cm³.)

Example: For a 30×30 cm surface with 1 cm thickness, approximately 1 kilogram of resin is required.

For precise measurements, please utilize our Resin Calculator

Artline Epoxy Resin is VOC-free but does not hold certification for direct, long-term food contact. After curing for 30 days, it becomes an inert plastic suitable for incidental food exposure. It is not antimicrobial. Epoxy, whether liquid or cured, is unsafe for ingestion. Avoid cutting or preparing raw food on epoxy surfaces.

Our resin range features distinct characteristics tailored to various applications. Please consult our resin comparison chart to select the ideal product for your project. For personalized assistance, contact us via email, chat or WhatsApp with your project details.

Thick pour epoxy cures gradually to prevent cracking or shrinking. It cures through heat generated by its own mass and ambient temperature.

Adhere strictly to our instructions, as curing times and thickness limits vary by resin type. For guidance, refer to our resin comparison chart.

Before pouring thick layers, warm epoxy containers in hot tap water (50-60°C).

Mix thoroughly for 4 to 5 minutes, then allow the mixture to rest in the jar to release trapped bubbles before pouring.

Our epoxy resins contain the maximum level of UV inhibitors achievable. However, we do not recommend exposing resin products directly to sunlight. Always protect epoxy surfaces, such as tables, by covering them if used outdoors.

Epoxy resin and hardener components differ in weight due to viscosity and composition.

Precise measurement should always be by weight, not volume. Follow the specific epoxy resin instructions and use a scale.

We do not offer samples, as small quantities do not accurately represent curing behavior or strength. We fully stand behind our product and provide comprehensive support regarding its suitability.

For business customers seeking bulk supplies, special pricing on trial orders is available. Please contact us via email, chat, or WhatsApp for details.

Pigment quantity varies by application and desired effect:

For Pigment Paste: 3–6 grams per 1 kg of resin.

For Transparent Colorant: 1–3 ml per 1 kg of resin.

Lighter colors or opaque effects may require higher pigment amounts.

TROUBLESHOOTING

When working with resin, technique is very important to ensure outstanding results. Below are common issues encountered during resin use, accompanied by recommended solutions.

1. Incorrect resin-to-hardener ratio.

Always follow instructions and measure each part separately and precisely.

2. Incomplete mixing.

Mix thoroughly, scraping the sides of the cup and stirring stick to ensure a uniform blend.

3. Incompatible components.

Only use resin and hardener from the same kit. Mixing brands may prevent curing.

4. Hardener omitted.

Resin will not cure without the hardener added.

5. Insufficient curing time.

Cure times vary by product—ranging from minutes to days. Confirm recommended duration.

6. Low temperature.

Resin, hardener, and workspace should be around 20°C. Warm resin in 5-minute water baths if cold.

7. Expired materials.

Avoid using resin or hardener past its shelf life.

8. Thin layers.

Thin pours cure slower as less heat is generated. Allow extra time.

9. Excess moisture.

Use only dry tools and pigment additives formulated for resin. Avoid aged kits.

1. Incorrect ratio.

Do not exceed the recommended amount of hardener or reduce resin. Excess hardener accelerates the reaction, causing rapid heating and fast curing.

2. Overheated components or environment.

If resin, hardener, or the workspace exceeds 75°F (24°C), pot life shortens. Avoid overheating materials in water baths.

3. Too large a batch.

Larger volumes generate more heat, accelerating the cure. Mix only within the manufacturer's specified maximum quantity.

1. Incorrect ratio

Use the precise amount of hardener to trigger the heat-producing chemical reaction required for curing.

2. Cold temperature
Ensure resin, hardener, and room temperature are at least 20°C for proper curing.

3. Batch too small
Mixing too little may prevent curing. Always meet the manufacturer’s minimum volume requirement.

1. Mix gently

Stir slowly and deliberately to avoid introducing bubbles. Do not whip or whisk the mixture.

2. Reactions from inclusions

Inclusions may release bubbles or react with resin. Seal them with glue or clear tape before use.

3. Eliminate bubbles before curing

Use a toothpick, heat gun, or bubble spray to remove surface bubbles before the resin sets.

1. Incomplete mixing

Mix thoroughly, scraping container sides and stirring multiple times.

2. High humidity

Use a dehumidifier during casting to reduce moisture.

3. Residual unmixed resin

Mix for 3–5 minutes in one cup, then transfer and stir an additional 1–2 minutes in a clean cup.

1. Expired resin kit

Do not use resin past its expiration date.

2. Improper storage

Store resin and hardener in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and temperature fluctuations.

3. Air exposure

Leaving resin bottles partially full allows oxidation, causing yellowing. Buy smaller quantities to use within half the shelf life.

4. Yellowing correction

Add 3–5 drops of blue liquid pigment to hardener before mixing to counteract yellow tint.

Resin components were cold.

Warm the bottles in a warm water bath before use.
