Hero of the Month: Belén Ortego — Ocean Art & Resin as Fine Art 🌊

This month our Hero of the Month is someone many of you already know: Belén Ortego, Artline ambassador and visual artist. She discovered resin only in early 2025 — and today she creates ocean art that looks like the sea seen from above.

Belén told us how resin made her cry on day one, why Honey and Extra Honey are her favourite Artline resins, and shared three golden rules every beginner should know. 🌊

How It All Began 💙

Belén's first contact with resin was a masterclass at the beginning of 2025, focused on ocean art. She had never tried resin before:

❝For me it was discovering a whole new world, so incredibly exciting that I even cried. Resin seems to have infinite possibilities.❞

Since then she has made many projects that could be called crafts, but Belén sees herself first of all as an artist. Her artworks are always focused on ocean art, and she would love to take resin one step further and use it in her abstract expressionism works too.

Experiments, the Sea and Her Proudest Work 🌊

Belén loves to research and experiment: she mixes resin with different materials and watches how it reacts. She plays with alcohol inks, notices how some resin colors are heavier than others, and explores how glitter behaves in the pour.

But her biggest inspiration is the sea. The pieces she is most proud of are her large ocean art canvases:

❝They look like aerial views of oceans, with depth and volume.❞

Her Favourite Artline Products 😍

Belén's two favourites are Honey and Extra Honey, and each has its own job in her studio:

Her Advice for Beginners 🛠️

We asked Belén what she would tell someone pouring resin for the first time. Here are her three golden rules:

  1. Set up your space❝First of all, arrange your space: make sure you work on plastic or a silicone mat, and always wear gloves.❞
  2. Measure precisely and mix calmly❝Measure the components as precisely as possible and take your time mixing. It's extremely important that parts A and B are perfectly mixed, so you won't have problems with curing later, whatever your project is.❞
  3. Be patient❝To me, this is the most important of the three. We work with chemicals we often don't fully know, and sometimes they react in ways we don't expect. So don't rush to demold, and don't touch the surface before 24 hours have passed, because it will leave a mark. Take it easy and you'll get perfect results.❞
Artline Tip: For Belén's second rule, weigh resin and hardener on a scale, mix slowly for 3–5 minutes while scraping the sides, then pour into a clean cup and mix for 1–2 minutes more.

What Comes Next 🎄

Belén is staying true to the sea, but there's something festive on the way too:

❝I'll keep working on ocean art, and now I'm going to release a collection of Christmas ornaments. And of course I'm continuing my project so that resin stops being seen as just something for crafts and becomes an artistic element that takes artworks to a higher level.❞

We can't wait to see it! If her news has inspired you to make your own festive pieces, take a look at our Premium Christmas silicone molds.
