How to Calculate Epoxy Resin for Any Project

If you’ve ever worked with epoxy, you’ve probably asked yourself:
how much resin do I actually need?

And honestly — this is where most mistakes happen. Either not enough (and the surface isn’t covered), or way too much (and you just waste material).

At Artline, we keep it simple.

The simple way to calculate resin

There’s one formula we use all the time:

Volume (g) = area × thickness × 1.1

That +10% is important — it covers small losses and the fact that resin is slightly denser than water.

Let’s look at real examples

If you’re pouring something like a tray or a mold — let’s say 20 × 30 cm and 1 cm deep.

You multiply everything and get about 660 g of resin.

This is a very typical setup for: coasters, trays, small decorative pieces.

For this, Artline Crystal (2:1) works best.
It’s liquid, easy to work with, and bubbles escape much faster — especially important in molds.

Now imagine you’re doing resin art on a 40 cm round board, with a thin layer around 2 mm. You’ll need roughly 280–300 g of resin.

Here, the choice of resin really affects the final look:

want smooth, flowing effects → go with Artline Crystal
want more control and sharper patterns → use Artline Honey or Extra Honey (2:1)

For a top coat (for example 40 × 60 cm, 1 mm layer), you’ll need around 260 g.

And here, honestly, don’t overthink it — just use Artline Extra Honey (2:1).
It’s thicker, stays in place, and gives that clean glossy finish without running off the edges.
