đHow to create Rainbow Resin Coasters With Alcohol Inkđ
Petrified coasters are amazing pieces of artwork! If youâve ever seen it, you know what we are talking about.
The good news is that you can create such beautiful coasters too. So, letâs dive into the technique of creating eye-catching rainbow coasters with alcohol ink.
Here are the steps:
-
Prepare your Silicone Mold
After getting all the supplies and taking safety measures, you need to prepare your silicone mold.
You need to clean your mold properly. Make sure you remove all the dirt, dust, hair, and other impurities from the mold. If not cleaned properly, all these will settle in the resin during casting. Itâs better to use 96% isopropyl alcohol to wipe the mold with kitchen paper or cloth before you begin with your project.Â
Additionally, you can wipe the mold with silicone spray to prevent it from sticking.Â
-
Prepare Other MaterialsÂ
The next step is to prepare your epoxy resin for pouring (use epoxy resin instruction).
We recommend using high viscosity resin for Alcohol Ink projects.
The size of the molds will determine the amount of epoxy resin to be prepared.
-
Pour Resin into The Mold
Level your work table first, then pour the resin into the mold. Now, check the consistency of the prepared resin with the wood stirrer. If itâs still runny, we recommend to wait for a few minutes or more.Â
When the consistency of the resin gets thick, pour it into the silicone mold. If you notice air bubbles, use a blow torch/heat gun to eliminate them.
-
Drop Alcohol Inks
Drop the inks on the poured resin into the molds. However, make sure you do this immediately after youâve poured the resin. Thatâs why it is important to use a resin of high viscosity to get beautiful Petri coasters. However, if youâre already a pro master, youâre free to experiment!
-
Covering The Poured Silicone Molds
When you are done with pouring and dropping, you will have to cover the silicone molds. You can use a cardboard box or a plastic box. You must be sure that the box shouldnât come in contact with the poured resin and silicone mold. Store it in a safe place for curing.Â
Although it must dry within 24-36 hours (depends on resin, please read the instructions carefully). Generally, your petri coaster must fully cure within 3 days.
-
Remove The Petri Coasters from The Molds
Carefully removing your coasters from the sides of the silicone mold.
Here is a small tip for you: wipe silicone mold with silicone or use silicone spray before pouring the resin mixture. This keeps the ink from spreading too much, thereby resulting in decorative color cells.Â
