⛄️How to work with Resin in Cold Weather?⛄️

When you purchase two-part Resin, it comes in two bottles: Resin and Hardener. When you mix Resin and Hardener together, a chemical reaction occurs, and it produces heat. This is what causes your Resin to harden.

The ideal room temperature for this to happen is 20-25 degrees Celsius. Every Resin is slightly different, so you need to check the instructions in your kit to find the optimal curing temperature for your Resin.

That’s not so difficult to achieve during the hot summer season, but during the cold season it can be challenging.

So here are some cold season tips to make sure your Resin cures hard and clear:

❄️#1. Plan ahead.

In the winter months, you might find your Resin has crystalized and it has a milky look or it may have even solidified completely. This is a normal occurrence for epoxy that has been exposed to extremely cold or freezing temperatures for an extended period of time.
Don’t panic, it’s normal, just need to plan everything ahead!

❄️#2. Put your Resin and Hardener closed bottles in a smaller room and use a heater.

You can use storeroom or even bathroom. Turn on a space heater while you are casting your Resin. The heater will bring your room temperature in the small space up to 20-25 degrees Celsius without turning on the full heat to your house.
You can also put your Resin near the heater.

❄️#3. Warm your resin before using it.

Put your Resin kit in a warm water bath for 5-10 minutes before using it. Not only does this warm up the Resin but making it much easier for the Resin to release bubbles.

❄️#4. Warm your silicone molds before adding Resin.

Before pouring your warm Resin into your cold mold, run a heat gun/torch over the mold first (or put them in a warm water too, don‘t forget to wipe them dry!) This helps the Resin retain its heat instead of the Resin warming the mold.

Now that you know how to adjust the temperature of both your Resin and your working area, you'll be able to avoid the challenges that the cold temperature brings and work with Resin right throughout the winter months!
