At Artline Epoxy Resin, we use Mica pigments with different resin systems — from fluid pours with Crystal to layered and textured work with Honey and Extra Honey. In this guide, you’ll learn how to use mica powder correctly, how much to add, and how to achieve professional results.

💎 What Is Mica Pigment for Epoxy Resin?

Mica is a fine coloured powder that reflects light, which gives it its metallic shimmer. Unlike transparent resin dyes, mica creates both solid colour coverage and a beautiful pearlescent glow at the same time.

Why choose Mica?

Highly concentrated — minimal consumption
Easy to mix into resin
✔ Creates metallic, pearlescent and marble effects
✔ Suitable for jewelry, trays, coasters, tabletops, geodes and wall panels
✔ Even dispersion when mixed properly

If you want rich metallic colours in Epoxy Resin, mica is a universal solution.

⚖️ How Much Mica Should You Add to Epoxy Resin?

One of the most common questions: what is the correct pigment dosage?

Recommended dosage:

  • 0.5–1g per 100g of mixed resin
  • Add gradually until desired saturation is achieved
  • Do not exceed 5–6% of total resin weight

Adding too much pigment may disturb the resin-to-hardener balance and affect curing.

💡 Professional tip: You can always darken a shade, but you cannot lighten it. Start with a small amount.

🔄How to Properly Mix Mica with Resin

1️⃣ Measure and thoroughly mix resin and hardener.
2️⃣ Stir for at least 2–3 minutes.
3️⃣ Add mica powder gradually.
4️⃣ Mix again carefully, scraping the sides and bottom of the container.

Mica powder is very fine — add gently to prevent particles from dispersing into the air.

For best results:

  • Room temperature: 22–25°C
  • Humidity below 60%
  • Clean and dry tools

✨Single-Colour Metallic Pour

If you want a smooth metallic or pearlescent finish:

  • Add mica powder to the full batch of resin
  • Mix until completely uniform
  • Pour slowly
  • Remove bubbles using a torch or heat gun

Mica pigment is stable and resistant to gentle heating during bubble removal.

🌈How to Use Multiple Mica Colours

Method 1: Mixing Colours Separately

  • Divide the resin into separate cups
  • Add different shades
  • Pour strategically to create transitions and swirls

Lower viscosity resins (such as Crystal) allow smoother blending.
Thicker resins (Honey, Extra Honey) help preserve colour separation.

Method 2: Dry Brush Technique 🖌️

This method creates bright metallic accents and highlights mold texture.

How to do it:

  • Use a soft dry brush
  • Pick up dry pigment
  • "Paint" the inside surface of the mold
  • Remove excess powder
  • Pour clear or lightly tinted resin on top

Perfect for:

  • Geode edges
  • Scale molds
  • 3D decorative details
  • Metallic highlights

Before starting, make sure the mold is clean and dust-free.

🏆 Which Artline Resins Work Best with Mica?

Mica powder can be used with any Artline resin.

Different viscosities create different effects:

  • Crystal — ideal for fluid pours and smooth transitions

  • Honey — great for controlled layers

  • Extra Honey — perfect for dense textures and bold metallic effects

Choice of resin depends on your project type and the desired result.
