How Does Epoxy Resin Cure?
Why Can Resin Cure Faster in the Centre?
Sometimes the centre of a pour already feels firm while the edges are still soft or stretchy.
More heat can build up in the centre of the mold, so this area may polymerize faster than the cooler edges. If you test the resin with a stick, the middle may already feel firm while the resin near the sides still stretches almost like honey.
Give the whole piece enough time to finish curing before trying to fix anything.
What Are the Best Conditions for Epoxy Resin?
For Artline resins, a room temperature of around 22-24°C gives the most stable and predictable results.

And remember: these conditions apply not only to the room. Your resin, mold and work surface should also be at a comfortable room temperature before you start.
Working with Resin in Cold Conditions ❄️
Below 20°C, polymerization slows down significantly. Cold resin also becomes thicker, which can make mixing, pouring and bubble release more difficult.
If the resin doesn't get enough heat during curing, the finished piece may stay sticky, rubbery or softer than expected.
Here's what to do:
Warm Up the Workspace First
Bring the room to around 22–24°C before you start. Give the workspace and materials time to warm up rather than turning the heating on immediately before mixing.
Let the Resin Reach Room Temperature
If your resin arrived from a cold delivery or was stored somewhere chilly, let both the resin and hardener warm up before mixing. If necessary, place the closed bottles in warm (not hot) water for a few minutes. Make sure the bottles are completely dry before opening them.
Let the Mold and Work Surface Warm Up
Don't pour room-temperature resin into a very cold mold. Keep your mold and other materials in the same warm workspace before starting.
Keep the Temperature Stable While It Cures
Don't let the room become cold again immediately after pouring. Try to maintain stable conditions throughout curing.
Give the Resin More Time
Lower temperatures slow curing. If the piece is still slightly soft earlier than expected, keep it in stable warm conditions and give it more time.
Never Add Extra Hardener
More hardener will not compensate for a cold workspace. Always follow the correct mixing ratio for your Artline resin and adjust the temperature instead.
Working with Resin in Hot Conditions ☀️
Above 25°C, polymerization speeds up. Working time becomes shorter and the resin can build up heat much faster.
Here's how to make hot-weather resin work easier:
Mix Smaller Batches
Prepare less resin at a time to reduce heat build-up inside the mixing cup.
Work During Cooler Hours
If your workspace gets very hot during the day, try pouring in the morning or evening. Keep resin bottles and curing projects away from direct sunlight.
Keep the Temperature Stable
Avoid sudden temperature changes while the resin cures, especially during the first 4 hours after pouring.
Watch the Room Temperature
Temperatures above 25°C already affect the reaction. If your workspace reaches around 27°C or higher, it's better to cool the room or wait for a cooler time before starting.
Don't Leave Mixed Resin Sitting in the Cup
Once the mixture is ready, use it without unnecessary delay instead of leaving a large amount sitting in a deep container.
Respect the Maximum Batch and Pour Size
The larger the amount of resin, the more heat it generates. Always stay within the recommended batch size and maximum layer thickness for the Artline resin you are using.
How Do You Know If Resin Is Overheating? 🔥
Watch for:
Lots of tiny, foam-like bubbles
Unusually fast thickening
Very strong heat coming from the mixture
Yellowing during polymerization
If clear resin begins to yellow during the reaction, this can be a clear sign that the mixture is overheating. In extreme cases, an overheated batch can react very quickly and even begin to smoke.
Working with Resin in High Humidity 💧
Humidity can affect both curing and the final surface — even when the temperature is perfect. The recommended humidity depends on the resin you're using, and Extra Honey is especially sensitive to moisture.
On humid or rainy days:
Check the Humidity Before You Start
Use a hygrometer instead of relying on how the room feels.
Use a Dehumidifier If Needed
If humidity is above the recommended range for your resin, lower it before starting your pour.
Keep Humid Outdoor Air Outside
If it's very humid or raining outdoors, opening windows can increase the humidity in your workspace.
Keep All Materials Dry
Make sure molds, wood, dried flowers and other inclusions are completely dry before they come into contact with resin.
Keep Conditions Stable During Curing
Humidity matters after the pour too, so try to maintain the recommended conditions while the resin cures.
High humidity can contribute to cloudiness, sticky surfaces, uneven finishes or amine blush.
